THE LAURELTON CLUB

THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NEGRO BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL WOMEN'S CLUBS, INC.
2021 Scholarship Recipients
The Laurelton Club awarded a total of $5,000 in scholarship monies to five deserving High School seniors from the Class of 2021. These students were selected by our Scholarship Committee based on their high academic achievements, community service and extracurricular activities.

Xandria Crosland
Townsend Harris High School

Xandria is dedicated to changing the world through the art of storytelling. She plans to make a name for herself and set new precedents. She wants to become a leading figure in the gaming industry, promoting diversity and togetherness in a world riddled with hatred. From a young age she exactly what direction she want to take her life and dedicate everything she does to achieve the goals she has set for herself. She is the change she wants to see in the world!  Xandria will be attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute or NYU.

Kyler Burgen
Benjamin Cardozo High School

Kyler is a bright and shining star who is active in extracurriculars that includes Diamond Dance, HilliArts Performing Arts Studio, Top Teens of America, EQA Roots and Shoots Youth Brigade, Girl Scouts of Greater New York, Bethsalem Baptist Church Outreach Ministry, and Bethsalem Baptist Church Praise Team. She also does volunteer work with the Girl Scouts, Family Shelter Work for seasonal events and is also a CYO Beginner Swim Instructor. She is involved with a variety of clubs, which includes Cardozo Spirit Squad, Cardozo Stunt and Tumbling, Glamour Gals, DUCC(Dance Club)889. Kyler plans to attend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute or Lincoln University.

Lorraine Benn
York Early College Academy High School

Lorraine aspires to be a dermatologist, as she believes that the skin is the window to the body. She is driven by her passion to help change the many dermatological disparities within health care, that directly affect minorities. She loves traveling and photography and one day hopes to experience different cultures by traveling the world. Lorraine’s philosophy of life is that true change starts from within, and we need to be the change we want to see in our own lives and the world around us. Lorraine will be attending the Sophie Davis Biomedical program at the CUNY School of medicine in the fall 2021 semester.

Myah Mitchell
The Mary Louis Academy

Myah has a clear vision for her future as she takes steps to become a triple threat artist, astronaut, and doctor like her role model Mae Jemison. She aspires to become a NASA astronaut and find the cure to autoimmune diseases like Lupus and Multiple Sclerosis while playing violin in an orchestra. She founded the TMLA Girls Who Code. She will graduate in June 2021 with a STEM designation diploma, and an Advanced Regents diploma. She’s also a Junior Olympic-level USA gymnast with Power Moves Gymnastics and a violinist with the Harmony Orchestra, an affiliate of the Junior Philharmonic. Myah is also a member of the AOPA flight program and plans to earn her private pilot’s license before graduating college.

Kaylah Lewis
Preparatory Academy for Writers 

Kaylah is a member of the Art Club and used her creative skills to provide art for her school’s event. She has also volunteered for library maintenance/assistant, at her local elementary school, P.S. 37, for 2 years. She thanks her Club teacher, Mr. Crossen, for teaching new skills and expanding her creativity and her parents and friends for supporting her artworks. Kaylah plans to use her skills to major in illustrations and Studio Arts. She’s determined to pursue a career as a Multimedia Designer. Kaylah will be attending Bard College.
